BIOGRAPHY

Jan is one of most talented Czech cellist of young generation. As a soloist and also chamber music player Jan has given concerts on stages all over. He founded 12X, Prague Cello Trio and Prague Cello Quartet.

He studied at the Conservatory in Brno with Miroslav Zícha, continued at the Prague Conservatory where he was selected to play his final performance Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B minor with the Prague Conservatory Symphonic Orchestra. In 2014, he graduated the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with Miroslav Petráš. Jan completed his studies at the prestigious Universität der Künste Berlin in the class of prof. Wolfgang Boettcher. After his studies he still goes to Berlin regularly to taking private lessons.

 

He has attended lessons and masterclasses with great musicians such as Raphael Wallfish, Günter Pichler, Natalia Prishepenko, Wolfgang Mehlhorn, Julian Steckel, Antonio Meneses, Maxim Rysanov and Maria Kliegel.

 

Jan has given concerts and performances solo and with orchestra on many stages of Europe. He raised his renome performing Dvořák Concerto, which he has given multiple times i.e. Talichův Beroun Music Festival. As a winner of the Academy competition “The Best”, he graduated with First Cello Concerto by Shostakovich with Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra of South Bohemian.

Jan is often invited to play solo concerts in France. He made a successful appearance i.e last year solo performances with Orchestre de chambre Camerata Bohémiana at the festival Puisaye-Forterre. 

 

Jan has attended many prestigious masterclasses all over Europe and has given very successful performances at multiple national and international competitions. He is a prize-winner at international Heran Violoncello Competition, at the Conservatory Competition in Teplice or at the International Music Competition Beethovenův Hradec.

 

Since 2009 he has played in Czech Philharmonic Orchestra as a regular guest.  From beginning of 2014 has been working in National Theatre (Prague).

In addition to pursuing a career as a soloist, Jan often performs as chamber music player.

 

Between 2008 and 2015 he was a member of string quartet Doležal Quartet. They were chosen for some of the most famous world competitions and received numerous prestigious awards. They recorded CD for “gwk” with clarinetist Blaž Šparovec in Berlin.

 

Jan is cellist of Palenicek Piano Trio. After just few weeks of playing, they were awarded at the Martinů Competition and also got to the final stage at Premio “Antonio Bertolini” in Milano, Italy. They participated and performed concerts in biggest Scandinavian Festival Aurora music Festival in Sweden.

 

Besides the classical solo and chamber music repertoire, Jan is a founding member and an arranger of Prague Cello Quartet, which is nowadays one of the most outstanding multi-genre group in Czech Republic. Jan recorded and also produced two CDs with this Quartet. They are performing about 60 concerts per year in various places in Europe and they have been recently preparing for China, Korea, Japan and USA.
